Update on the team

Hello everyone
A lot has happened since I posted my last update. We went to Union South Carolina and competed in the local competition there. The course was a tough course but we were able to improve our relay time to 1:29. We were very proud of everyone's performance. I would like to thank everyone involved in the Union FD for putting on the event and making every effort to make it possible for us to participate.

We have started to change our work outs to try to improve as much as possible before we go to Atlanta on October 17-19 2008. We have begun training with Hosea Sandstrom of Lowcountry Crossfit. Hosea came out to our training tower and watched our work out and has given us advice on how to improve our work. We have started going to Lowcountry Crossfit in Mt. Pleasant and working out there. Crossfit workouts are comprised of constantly varied functional movements (like pushing, pulling, squatting, lifting, running) executed at high intensity. If you check out the link to Lowcountry Crossfit you can find out more about it.

Getting ready for Asheville

Hello

we are getting ready for the competition in Asheville. We have changed the relay team around and have been working on improving our time. The relay this time will be David running up the tower carrying the hose pack and handing off to Brad. Brad will be doing the hose pack hoist to the top of the tower and handing back off to David. David will then run down the tower and hand off to me (Chad). I will be hitting the Keiser Sled and then hand off to Scott who will be running the obstacle course and pulling the charged hand line. Scott will hand off to Marc who will do the dummy drag to the finish. In practice we have been able to get our time in the 1:45:00 range. We have to qualify again for the world finals as we have changed the team. We feel that this should not be a problem.

Everyone is excited and looking forward to the competition. We all hope to improve our individual times and set new personal records. Holly and Adam have changed around the Coed Tandem. Adam will be running the tower and hitting the Keiser Sled and Holly will be running the obstacle course and the dummy drag. We hope this change will improve the time. Thank you once again for your support.

Welcome to Team St. Johns Blog

Welcome;

This is Team St. Johns Blog. We are a Firefighter Combat Challenge team from St. Johns Fire Department on Johns Island South Carolina. We currently have seven members on the team but hope to expand over time.

We started this team in 2007 with five members. We were able to compete in three events that year. Myrtle Beach at the State Firefighter Convention, Union South Carolina and the SCOTT event in Lexington Kentucky.

This year we have competed in Gainesville Florida and were able to qualify our mens relay and our coed tandem for the Championship Finals in Las Vegas this year. This is something that we are very proud of. This was the first time we had ever ran the relay. Our mens relay just barely qualified with a time of 1:59:11 just under the 2:00:00 mark required to qualify. We are working hard to improve that time and be more competitive. Our coed tandem team qualified with a 2:25:00. They are a strong team and will improve. This not only was the first time the coed tandem team competed as a tandem it was also the first event that they had ever been to.

Our next event is in Asheville North Carolina on May 23-24 2008. I will be posting pictures and results as soon as I can. Hope to hear from you and that you enjoy this Blog.

To see more pictures and videos of the team goto the Team St. Johns Myspace page link at the bottom of the page. The SCOTT Firefighter Combat Challenge link will take you to the official site for the challenge and there you can find the official results and event schedules.
